  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped, divided

Additional Ingredients:

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large Dutch oven, cook the sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic until browned. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and parsley. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Cook the Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles until al dente, then drain and rinse.
  3. Prepare the Ricotta Mixture: Mix ricotta cheese with egg, parsley, and salt.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna: Layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan in a baking dish. Repeat layers and bake.
  5. Bake: Cover and bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 25 minutes.
  6. Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before serving.
