Description

These Slow Cooked Crockpot Cheeseburgers are a delicious and easy way to enjoy juicy, tender cheeseburgers without the hassle of grilling or frying. Cooked low and slow in a crockpot, the patties come out perfectly cooked and flavorful, topped with melted cheddar cheese and served on toasted buns with classic condiments and pickles for the ultimate comfort meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Burgers

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese

For Serving

  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 6 dill pickle slices
  • 1 tablespoon butter for buns (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until well incorporated to maintain tenderness.
  2. Form Patties: Shape the seasoned beef mixture into 6 evenly sized patties, making them slightly wider than your hamburger buns to account for shrinkage during cooking.
  3. Layer Onions in Crockpot: Place the thinly sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker. The onions create a flavorful base and help prevent the patties from sticking.
  4. Stack Patties: Place the patties on top of the onions. If stacking, separate each patty with small pieces of parchment paper to avoid sticking together.
  5. Slow Cook: Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours, or until the burgers are fully cooked through and tender. Avoid lifting the lid frequently to maintain heat.
  6. Add Cheese: In the last 15 minutes of cooking, place one slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to let the cheese melt thoroughly while the burgers finish cooking.
  7. Toast Buns: If desired, lightly butter the hamburger buns and toast them either in a skillet or oven until golden and warm.
  8. Assemble Burgers: Spread ketchup and mustard on the toasted buns, top with the cheesy patties, add dill pickle slices and some of the slow-cooked onions from the crockpot. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • To prevent the patties from becoming crumbly, avoid overcooking them; cooking for the minimum recommended time is best.
  • A small splash of beef broth added to the bottom of the crockpot can help keep the burgers moist and add extra flavor.
  • Use parchment paper between stacked patties to easily separate them after cooking.
  • For a lower fat option, use leaner ground beef and reduce or omit the butter used for buns.
