Dough:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
Topping:
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Dissolve Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead and Rise: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Shape and Bake: Divide dough into 12 portions, shape into balls, let rise again. Brush with egg wash, sprinkle sesame seeds, bake at 375°F for 15–18 minutes.
- Cool and Serve: Let rolls cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier roll.
- Store cooled rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
