Description

Crispy and cheesy Potato Cheese Sticks are a delicious snack made from mashed potatoes combined with cheddar and Parmesan cheeses, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried to golden perfection. These crunchy, flavorful sticks are perfect for serving as a party appetizer or an indulgent treat anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Potato Dough

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp paprika (optional)

Coating & Frying

  • 1 egg, beaten (for coating)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mash Potatoes: Mash boiled potatoes in a large bowl until smooth and free of lumps, creating the base for the dough.
  2. Prepare Dough: Add all-purpose flour, grated cheddar and Parmesan cheeses, melted butter, salt, black pepper, and paprika to the mashed potatoes. Mix thoroughly until a soft, pliable dough forms.
  3. Shape Sticks: Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut the dough into 4-inch-long sticks for uniform frying.
  4. Coat Sticks: Dip each stick into the beaten egg to moisten, then roll and coat evenly in breadcrumbs to ensure a crispy crust.
  5. Fry Sticks: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the coated sticks in batches, cooking each side until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
  6. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried sticks with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure potatoes are completely cooled before mashing to prevent a sticky dough.
  • You can substitute cheddar for any melting cheese of your choice for a different flavor profile.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste; paprika adds a mild smoky flavor but can be omitted if preferred.
  • Use fresh oil and maintain medium heat for even frying without burning.
  • These sticks are best served immediately for optimal crispiness.
