Description

These Pioneer Woman Jalapeño Cheese Crisps are a crispy, cheesy snack that combines sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheeses with spicy jalapeño slices. Baked to golden perfection with a hint of smoked paprika, these low-carb, gluten-free, and vegetarian crisps make a perfect savory bite for snack time or entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

Toppings & Seasoning

  • 12 fresh jalapeños (thinly sliced into rounds)
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)

Baking

  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix cheeses: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheeses thoroughly to create a uniform cheese blend.
  3. Form cheese mounds: Using about 1 tablespoon of the cheese mixture per crisp, place small mounds on the prepared baking sheet, flattening them slightly into circles. Leave approximately 2 inches of space between each mound to allow spreading during baking.
  4. Add jalapeños and seasoning: Top each cheese mound with one or two thin slices of fresh jalapeño. If desired, sprinkle a dash of smoked paprika over the tops for a smoky depth of flavor.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the crisps for 6 to 8 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  6. Cool: Remove from the oven and allow the crisps to cool completely on the baking sheet, which helps them crisp up perfectly.
  7. Serve and store: Carefully lift each crisp from the sheet and serve immediately. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • For convenience, pre-shredded cheese can be used, but freshly shredded cheese melts and crisps better.
  • To reduce heat, remove jalapeño seeds before slicing.
  • Store cooled crisps in an airtight container for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
