Description

This Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler is a classic southern dessert that perfectly combines a tender, buttery crust with juicy, spiced peaches. Baked to golden perfection, it’s an easy and comforting treat ideal for any occasion. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fruit and Spices

  • 4 cups fresh or canned sliced peaches (drained if canned)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Optional

  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt while you prepare the batter.
  2. Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 3/4 cup of the sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  3. Pour the Batter: Carefully remove the baking dish with melted butter from the oven. Pour the batter evenly over the hot melted butter in the dish but do not stir—it will create a layered effect during baking.
  4. Prepare the Peaches: In a separate bowl, toss the sliced peaches with the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until the peaches are evenly coated.
  5. Add the Peaches: Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish, again without stirring to maintain the layered texture.
  6. Bake: Bake the cobbler in the preheated oven for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the batter has risen around the peaches, forming a delicious crust.
  7. Serve: Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving warm. Optionally, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic combination.

Notes

  • You can use frozen peaches—just thaw and drain them before using to avoid excess moisture.
  • For a richer flavor, brown the butter before adding the batter to the dish.
  • Adjust the sugar amount depending on the sweetness of your peaches to suit your taste.
