Instructions

  1. Prepare Marinade: In a large bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, garlic, five-spice powder, white pepper, and food coloring if using.
  2. Marinate Chicken: Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, toss to coat evenly, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Bake Chicken: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange marinated chicken on the rack and bake for 20 minutes. Flip, baste with marinade, and bake for another 10–15 minutes until cooked through and caramelized.
  4. Broil: For extra char, broil for 1–2 minutes. Rest, slice, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
