Ingredients
Scale
Protein & Vegetables
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 6 cups shredded green cabbage
- 1 large carrot, julienned or shredded
- 2 green onions, sliced
Sauces & Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the beef: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Sauté aromatics: Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the beef. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant and the onion softens.
- Add vegetables: Stir in the shredded cabbage and julienned carrot. Cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
- Add sauces: Pour in the low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, and hoisin sauce if using. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes until everything is evenly coated and heated through.
- Season and garnish: Season with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes to taste. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
- Serve over cauliflower rice or brown rice for a more filling meal.
- You can swap the ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian version.
- To keep it gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of regular soy sauce.
