Description

A healthy and flavorful Chinese-inspired stir fry featuring lean ground beef, crunchy cabbage, and vibrant vegetables, tossed in a savory sesame and soy sauce blend. This quick and nutritious meal is perfect for busy weeknights and caters to gluten-free and dairy-free diets.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein & Vegetables

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 6 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 large carrot, julienned or shredded
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Sauces & Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Sauté aromatics: Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the beef. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant and the onion softens.
  3. Add vegetables: Stir in the shredded cabbage and julienned carrot. Cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  4. Add sauces: Pour in the low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, and hoisin sauce if using. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes until everything is evenly coated and heated through.
  5. Season and garnish: Season with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes to taste. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Serve over cauliflower rice or brown rice for a more filling meal.
  • You can swap the ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian version.
  • To keep it gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of regular soy sauce.
