Description

A comforting and flavorful dish, French Onion Beef and Noodles combines tender beef with caramelized onions, savory broth, and gooey cheese, served over egg noodles for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef:

  • 1 pound beef sirloin or chuck steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

For the Onions:

  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (or additional broth)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) onion soup mix

For Assembly:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 8 ounces egg noodles, cooked
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet, then cook beef until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, cook onions until golden. Add garlic, flour, broth, wine, Worcestershire sauce, and soup mix. Simmer.
  3. Combine and Serve: Return beef to skillet, add sour cream and noodles. Top with cheese and melt. Season and garnish before serving.

Notes

  • You can use extra beef broth instead of white wine.
  • For extra richness, add a splash of heavy cream.
  • Leftovers can be reheated the next day.
