For the Beef:
- 1 pound beef sirloin or chuck steak, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
For the Onions:
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (or additional broth)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 packet (about 1 ounce) onion soup mix
For Assembly:
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 8 ounces egg noodles, cooked
- 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef: Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet, then cook beef until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, cook onions until golden. Add garlic, flour, broth, wine, Worcestershire sauce, and soup mix. Simmer.
- Combine and Serve: Return beef to skillet, add sour cream and noodles. Top with cheese and melt. Season and garnish before serving.
Notes
- You can use extra beef broth instead of white wine.
- For extra richness, add a splash of heavy cream.
- Leftovers can be reheated the next day.
