Description

A quick and delicious easy teriyaki seitan recipe that delivers a savory and sweet plant-based meal perfect for weeknight dinners. This recipe features tender seitan slices cooked to golden perfection and coated in a rich teriyaki sauce made from soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds for added texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Seitan

  • 400 grams seitan

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 grams) brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sesame oil

Garnishes and Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Slice Seitan: Prepare the seitan by slicing it into bite-sized pieces to ensure even cooking and easy serving.
  2. Make Teriyaki Sauce: In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Whisk the mixture until the brown sugar dissolves completely for a smooth, flavorful sauce.
  3. Cook Seitan: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and add the sliced seitan. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pieces are golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges.
  4. Simmer with Sauce: Pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the cooked seitan in the skillet. Stir well to coat all pieces and allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the seitan.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top before serving for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use firm seitan for best texture and to prevent it from falling apart during cooking.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar according to taste.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red chili flakes to the teriyaki sauce.
  • Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
