Ingredients
Scale
Base & Mix
- 1 package Oreos (divided, about 36 cookies)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 16 oz (1 container) Cool Whip, thawed
Pudding
- 2 boxes instant vanilla pudding mix (3.3 oz each)
- 3 cups cold milk
Decoration
- Easter candy such as Peeps marshmallow chicks, Robin eggs, and colorful sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare the pudding: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the 2 boxes of instant vanilla pudding mix with 3 cups of cold milk until thickened, about 2 minutes. Set aside to firmly set while you prepare the cream cheese mixture.
- Cream cheese mixture: In a separate large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, softened butter, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Fold in half of the container of Cool Whip until fully combined and fluffy.
- Combine pudding with cream cheese mixture: Gently fold the set vanilla pudding into the cream cheese and Cool Whip mixture until you have a smooth and creamy filling. Be careful not to overmix to maintain a light texture.
- Crush Oreos: Place the Oreo cookies in a sealed plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin or pulse in a food processor until you have fine crumbs with some small chunks for texture. Divide into two parts: one for layering and one for topping.
- Assemble the dirt cake: In a large clear trifle bowl or deep dish, start by sprinkling a layer of crushed Oreos on the bottom to resemble soil. Next, spread a layer of the pudding and cream cheese mixture evenly over the Oreos.
- Repeat layers: Continue layering crushed Oreos and pudding mixture until the ingredients are used up, ending with a generous layer of crushed Oreos on top.
- Decorate: Place Easter-themed candy such as Peeps marshmallow chicks, Robin eggs, and colorful sprinkles on the top layer to create a festive Easter “garden” look.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled dirt cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set nicely.
- Serve: Scoop portions into dessert bowls or serve directly from the dish, letting guests enjoy the fun texture and sweet creaminess contrasted with the crunchy Oreos.
Notes
- For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and butter for creamy texture.
- Make sure the pudding is fully set before combining to avoid a runny consistency.
- Can be prepared a day in advance; the flavors develop nicely overnight.
- Can substitute Cool Whip with homemade whipped cream for a fresher taste.
- This dessert contains dairy and gluten; not suitable for those with allergies unless substituted.
