Ingredients
Scale
Pastry Base
- 1 sheet Puff pastry
- 1 cup Flour (for dusting)
- 1 spray Nonstick cooking spray
Filling
- 8 oz Cream cheese
- 1/2 cup Red pepper jelly
- 1 tbsp Fresh thyme leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Let the puff pastry sheet sit at room temperature for 15 minutes to make it pliable. Then, unfold it gently on a floured surface, roll it out lightly, and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Prepare Muffin Tin: Spray a muffin tin generously with nonstick cooking spray. Press each piece of puff pastry into the muffin cups snugly to form the base cups.
- Pre-Bake Pastry Shells: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Bake the pastry shells for 10 to 12 minutes until golden and crispy. If the centers puff up excessively, press them down gently with a spoon.
- Add Filling: Spoon a generous amount of cream cheese into each baked pastry shell, softly packing it in. Then, add a spoonful of red pepper jelly over the cream cheese to create a spicy-sweet layer.
- Final Bake: Return the muffin tin to the oven at 400°F and bake for an additional 6 to 8 minutes to warm through and meld the flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Let the bites cool for a few minutes, carefully remove them from the tin, and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves on top for an aromatic and elegant garnish.
Notes
- Allowing the puff pastry to rest at room temperature helps prevent cracking when rolling.
- Dusting your surface with flour ensures the pastry doesn’t stick while rolling and dividing.
- If the pastry puffs up too much during baking, pressing down the centers ensures the filling sits nicely.
- Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture and flavor.
- These bites are best served warm but can be enjoyed at room temperature.
- You can substitute fresh thyme with other herbs like basil or rosemary for variation.
