Description
This creamy homemade peanut butter recipe is a simple, natural way to enjoy fresh peanut butter with no added preservatives or sugars. Made from roasted raw peanuts and a pinch of sea salt, it creates a smooth, rich spread perfect for sandwiches, baking, or drizzling over your favorite breakfasts. The process involves roasting the peanuts for enhanced flavor followed by blending until a creamy consistency is achieved, making it healthier and tastier than store-bought alternatives.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 400 g raw unsalted peanuts, without shells
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Roast the peanuts: Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F). Spread the raw peanuts evenly on a baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes until they are toasted and fragrant. Remove the peanuts from the oven and allow them to cool completely for about 30 minutes; this step enhances the flavor and makes blending easier.
- Blend the peanuts: Transfer the cooled roasted peanuts to a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend for 3-4 minutes, initially turning the nuts into a coarse meal. Continue blending as the mixture becomes creamy and smooth, forming a peanut butter consistency. If using a blender like a Vitamix, start at a lower speed and increase to high once the mixture starts coming together to avoid overloading.
- Serve: Use your homemade peanut butter as a spread on sandwiches or toast, drizzle it over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal, or incorporate it into recipes such as peanut butter sauce, cookies, bars, tarts, brownies, ice cream, or even homemade fudge and candy. It works wonderfully as a versatile, natural ingredient in many dishes.
- Store: Transfer the peanut butter to a clean airtight jar and refrigerate. The peanut butter will keep well for up to 2 months, maintaining its fresh flavor and creamy texture.
Notes
- Make sure the peanuts are completely cooled before blending to avoid overheating your blender and to ensure a better texture.
- You can adjust the salt quantity based on your taste preference or omit it for a salt-free version.
- For chunkier peanut butter, pulse some peanuts in at the end of blending instead of fully pureeing.
- If the peanut butter seems too thick, you can add a teaspoon of neutral oil (like peanut or vegetable oil) to improve smoothness.
- This peanut butter is natural and doesn’t contain preservatives, so always store it in the refrigerator to extend shelf life.
