Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Marinade
- 500 grams (1 lb) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Vegetables and Aromatics
- 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced into thin strips
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 4 green onions, chopped (white and green parts separated)
Oils and Sauces
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (additional)
Optional Garnish
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness. Thinly slice the yellow onions and bell pepper. Mince the garlic and ginger. Chop the green onions, keeping the white and green parts separate for different uses during cooking and garnish.
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes to infuse flavors and tenderize the meat.
- Cook the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and sear it for 2-3 minutes to develop a nice crust, then continue stir-frying until the beef is cooked through but still tender.
- Add Aromatics and Vegetables: To the skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the sliced onions and bell pepper, cooking together for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften but retain some crunch.
- Combine and Finish: Return the cooked beef to the pan and pour in the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce along with the sesame oil. Toss everything to combine evenly, cooking for another 1-2 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Final Touches and Serve: Stir in the white parts of the green onions and cook for one more minute. Remove from heat and garnish with the green parts of the green onions and optional sesame seeds. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

- For extra tenderness, be sure to slice the beef thinly against the grain.
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or any preferred tender cut of beef.
- Adjust the amount of soy sauce and seasoning according to taste preferences or dietary needs.
- Adding bell pepper gives a nice sweetness and color, but it can be omitted or replaced with other vegetables like snow peas.
- Serve immediately after cooking to enjoy the best texture and flavor.
- Optional sesame seeds add a lovely crunch and aesthetic appeal but can be skipped if unavailable.
