Description

Creamy and indulgent, these Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes are the ultimate comfort food side dish. Layers of thinly sliced potatoes smothered in a rich cheese sauce, baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

Potatoes:

2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)

Cheese Sauce:

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 2 cups whole milk, 1 cup heavy cream, 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, ½ teaspoon onion powder, 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, ½ cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese, chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make Cheese Sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, add garlic, stir in flour, then gradually whisk in milk and cream. Season and add cheeses until smooth.
  3. Layer Potatoes: Arrange half of the potatoes in the dish, pour half of the cheese sauce, add remaining potatoes, then the rest of the sauce. Top with cheddar.
  4. Bake: Cover and bake for 30 minutes, uncover and bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and tender. Rest, garnish, and serve.
